Brewery Spotlight: Chuckanut Brewery
Thursday, October 8
Chuckanut is one of those breweries we keep coming back to because they make deceptively simple beer very, very well. For this Brewery Spotlight, we’re putting together a small four-beer menu that looks pretty similar on paper: pale, crisp, refreshing beer. But drink them side by side and the differences start to become the interesting part. The pleasure is in the details: bitterness, malt character, fermentation, hops, body and finish.
The Beers
Chuckanut Pilsner
The classic starting point. Chuckanut’s Bohemian-style Pilsner is cold fermented and aged for an extended period, with a dry, floral and snappy profile.
Highland Park Collab West Coast Pils
Japanese Style Lager
Lighter and more delicate, brewed with rice flakes for a leaner body and dry finish. Noble hops keep it crisp without overwhelming the beer.
Kölsch
Technically an ale rather than a lager, but designed with the same kind of restraint. Chuckanut’s version is light-bodied, gently malty and dry, giving us another way to look at how fermentation changes a pale, refreshing beer.
Four beers. Four different approaches to balance.
Come taste through them side by side and see which details stand out to you.
